A dry socket typically begins with severe pain around 3 days after your tooth has been extracted. You may also notice a nasty taste in your mouth, or have bad breath. Pain can radiate into your ear, eye, or neck on the same side.
How Can You Avoid It?
Fortunately, there are simple things to do:
- Do not use straws and do not smoke for at least a few days after the extraction.
- Eat soft foods; do not eat something crunchy or spicy.
- After 24 hours rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water.
- Follow your dentist’s instructions.
